The Line: Carolina Hurricanes -150 / Dallas Stars +130 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Dallas Stars travel to PNC Arena to take the ice with the Carolina Hurricanes in a Saturday night NHL hockey tilt.
The Dallas Stars have gone from being one of the better teams in hockey to one that will miss out on the postseason as things have not gone their way often enough. The Stars seem to be playing hard so the effort is there although the results haven’t been favorable. Dallas played well defensively in a 2-0 defeat at the Boston Bruins but their offense obviously stalled and you have to score to win in any sport. With no support to lean on the Stars were forced to rely on the goaltending of Antti Niemi who stopped 22 shots but was powerless otherwise. The Bruins didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard but didn’t need much with Torey Krug and Brad Marchand finding the back of the net. That was more then enough with Tuukka Rask earning his 7th shutout of the year with a 27 save performance.
The Carolina Hurricanes have suddenly cranked up the intensity to become one of the hottest teams in the game. The Hurricanes are in the midst of a desperate last ditch playoff push that has the team four points behind the Boston Bruins for the last Wild Card. The Canes stayed within shouting distance of Boston with a clutch 2-1, OT victory versus Eastern Conference power the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. The Hurricanes trailed the Blue Jackets until 4:20 remained in the game when Jeff Skinner scored the equalizer. Noah Hanifin tallied 2:16 in to overtime to win it and Teuvo Teravainen added a pair of helpers to support Cam Ward and his 23 stops. The Columbus goal came from Jack Johnson and the loss went too backup netminder Joonas Korpisalp who recorded 29 saves.
The under is 5-0 in Stars last 5 road games and the over is 6-1 in Stars last 7 Saturday games while the under is 6-1 in Stars last 7 overall. The Hurricanes are 4-0 in their last 4 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation and the Hurricanes are 0-5 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 while the Hurricanes are 7-1 in their last 8 games playing on 1 days rest. The Stars are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and the Stars are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Carolina while the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Dallas has been the better side in this match up and the over has done well but for now I’ll go with the desperate Hurricanes depending on goalies…
