The Red Wings look to for a repeat effort on the road tonight after blanking the Maple Leafs in Detroit last night as they take on the Hurricanes in Raleigh.
The Red Wings made quick work of the Maple Leafs in Detroit last night as they blanked the Buds by a 4-0 final and gave Mike Babcock a sour homecoming in his first game back to the Joe and now they head into Carolina in hopes of putting up another doughnut against the Canes. Detroit has high expectations this season after losing out in the first round to the Lightning a year ago and while they have some injuries to deal with in the early going including to that of Pavel Datsyuk they have a great balance on their roster as indicated by a season opening hat trick by Justin Abdelkader. The Wings will start Petr Mrazek as he will go up against Cam Ward.
The Hurricanes lost their season opener by a 2-1 final on the road in Nashville and actually played a pretty solid game considering their opponent and now they play in their home opener against a Wings team on a back to back. Carolina isn't expected to do much this season and they likely won't contend in the Eastern Conference but they do have some decent pieces in place and could shock a few teams with their competitiveness especially early in the season. However, this looks like a bad spot for them as the Wings are on a mission this season and in the early going I expect Detroit to play well under their new head coach Jeff Blashill.
