The struggling Edmonton Oilers have dropped eight of nine after a 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Leon Draisaitl gave Edmonton a 1-0 lead in the first period with Mikko Koskinen allowing two goals on 34 shots to absorb the loss.
Pittsburgh received second period goals from Bryan Rust and Teddy Blueger with Jared McCann hitting the empty net. Seven Penguins recorded points and Matt Murray stopped 38 shots to pick up the win.
The Carolina Hurricanes have won seven of ten after downing Ottawa on the road 4-1 on Tuesday. Ottawa took a short lived 1-0 lead in the first off the stick of Mark Stone. Anders Nilsson was charged with all four goals on 37 shots to absorb the loss for the Senators.
Teuvo Teravainen scored twice in a four goal Carolina third period with Micheal Ferland and Justin Williams adding markers. Williams also had an assist and Ferland added a pair of helpers for the Hurricanes to make the 25 saves of Curtis McElhinney a winning effort.
