The Panthers look to follow up last night's shellacking of the Devils with a similar outing on the road against the Hurricanes in Raleigh.
The Florida Panthers put up one of their best efforts of the season on the road in New Jersey last night as they dealt the Devils a 5-1 drubbing behind a stellar night from Al Montoya who continues to be one of the league's best second string options in the crease. The Cats pushed their record to 16-12-4 with the win and trail the second place Bruins by just two points in the Atlantic division, a race that is going to come down to the wire this season. Florida is playing in a back to back but luckily for them they throw their starting goaltender back in the mix in Roberto Luongo and set up against a Canes team that will likely start Eddie Lack as they embark on a double header. Florida is 9-6-2 on the road this year while the Hurricanes are 6-6-3 at home.
The Hurricanes have had a tough start to the year and while there is still a lot of hockey left to be played and some of their players are heating up it may just be boosting their return at the trade deadline as some pieces could be on the move. Carolina sits in seventh place in the Metro and are 11 points back of the third seeded Islanders for the final automatic berth in the division and if guys like Eric Staal, Jeff Skinner, and Cam Ward are in fact on the trading block I don't anticipate their mark will get much better by season's end. The Canes are in tough here and while the Cats are in a let down spot I think they respond with Luongo back in the crease and win their second game in as many nights.
