The Devils look to end their losing ways and get back in the fold in the Metro division as they head into Raleigh to take on the Hurricanes.
The New Jersey Devils got off to one of the best starts in the NHL through the first couple of weeks but have since taken a nose dive and are in need of a spark as we approach the Christmas break. The Devils sit in fifth place in the division but as such are only just four points back of the Capitals for the third and final guaranteed playoff spot and with how wide open things are beyond the top two spots the Devils are by no means out of the hunt and with a victory here against the Canes it could go a long way into getting them back into the discussion. Corey Schneider will get the call tonight between the pipes and with the Canes playing yesterday against the Red Wings we will likely see Anton Khudobin go for the Hurricanes who will look to end a two game slide.
The Hurricanes were in a nice spot in yesterday's home tilt against he Red Wings to pull off the upset but it wasn't to be as they didn't play a very good game and allowed the Red Wings to dictate the pace of the action and as such Detroit came away with a 3-1 victory. Cam Ward had a pretty good game in the crease and he has been the team's literal and figurative saving grace this season as they could be a lot worse off if not for their goaltender and he will get the night off in this one as he gives way to the former Bruins backup in Khudobin. Carolina is in a tough spot despite being on home ice and it is shocking to me that they are favoured so I will jump on it early and take the Devils at plus money.
