The Devils and Hurricanes meet up in Raleigh on Sunday as both teams continue their push towards an Eastern Conference wild card spot.
The New Jersey Devils head into Carolina on Sunday to battle with the Hurricanes in a pivotal show down between two sides in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and the outcome of this one could go a long way in determining who gets in. Both teams at this rate are a bit of a long shot as they are five and six points back respectively but with seven games remaining there Is still a chance they will slide in but need to push now and hope that the Wings and Flyers falter. New Jersey has gotten a spectacular run out of Scott Wedgewood and will likely send him to the crease in this one as he will face off against Cam Ward for the Canes.
Carolina is four games above the .500 mark and head into tonight’s game coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders in their last outing. The Canes have dropped five of their last 10 games in the extra session which has kept them alive in the Eastern Conference but if they had gotten a win or two and earned a few extra points in this contests they’d be in much better shape and could be in the driver’s seat but instead they are fighting for their lives and will likely miss out on the playoffs. The Canes and Devils both need the win here and in a tightly contested match up I think both sides will play close to the vest and as such I like the under to hit in a low scoring affair.
