It was shaping up to be another difficult early season loss for the Hurricanes before the Staal brothers connected to tie the game with under a minute to go in regulation. Carolina was being shut out 1-0 by the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night before Eric found Jordan in front of the net to finally beat Steve Mason and even the score. In overtime it was Manny Malhotra on a breakaway with the game winner as the Hurricanes rallied for a huge win. Justin Peters played his best game of the year with 28 saves, allowing Carolina to stay in the game and eventually get things evened up. Now they'll have to find a way to string consecutive wins together against a New York Islanders club that will be looking to bounce back after a lackluster performance against the Washington Capitals. The Islanders allowed five second period goals en route to a 6-2 defeat and it was a disappointing effort for a team that has been up and down all year long. Evgeni Nabokov continues to be shaky in net and unless he steps up his game or the Islanders can find a capable replacement they might be fighting uphill all season long. They've played better than Carolina has this season and this will be a big bounce back spot for them on Thursday.
