The Canes return home to face the Rangers a night after gaining an overtime win against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
The New York Rangers head into Raleigh on Friday night looking to keep pace in the Metropolitan division as they currently hold a one point lead on the Islanders for second place. The Blue Shirts have been up and down this season and thanks to Washington’s ridiculous season they are a ways out from a division title but can still earn home ice in the first round of the playoffs if they can keep the Isles at bay. The Rangers will likely add some pieces at the trade deadline and if they can grab another impact player up front they will be tough to slow down but at this rate it may cost them one of their blue chip defensemen which is a bit of a catch 22. Henrik Lundqvist will get the call as he will go up against Eddie Lack.
The Canes meanwhile continued their surprising stretch with an overtime win against the Leafs last night but face much stiffer competition here despite the game being played in Raleigh. The Canes sit in sixth place in the Metro and are just five back of the Isles for the third and final automatic berth in the Eastern Conference and at this rate they could very well make a surprising appearance. However, things look like they’re going to take a turn downwards as they are without Cam Ward for the foreseeable future who is on the injured reserve with an injury and Eddie Lack will be forced to handle the load in his absence. The Canes got away with one last night and Lack got a shutout but I expect a much different outcome here.
