Two of the league’s coldest teams meet up in Raleigh on Monday as the Philadelphia Flyers face off against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Flyers have already made a coaching change and have grown weary of their performance so far this season and as losers of 6 of their last 7 games on the road and 14 of their last 20 overall it is no wonder the fan base is starting to get frustrated. Philly certainly has some talent in the offensive zone but they haven’t been able to piece everything together and are looking like a team that is more likely to challenge for a lottery pick in the draft than a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Flyers are 5-12 in their last 17 against the Eastern Conference and 3-10 in their last 13 Monday games but they take on a Hurricanes side that is also in the midst of an ugly slump that includes a 1-7 stretch in their last 8 games against the Eastern Conference.
The Hurricanes came into the season as a dark horse pick in the Eastern Conference but they have been very disappointing over the last couple of weeks and haven’t done themselves any favors as they are 1-6 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. Carolina has some nice young talent but like the Flyers they have been far too inconsistent to be relied on at the betting window and until someone steps up as a consistent threat to score goals they are a team that will remain on auto fade. Carolina is 2-5 in their last 7 home games and 9-25 in their last 34 Monday games and for the first time in a while they will find themselves as a favorite.
The Flyers are 2-5 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record and have hit the Under in 4 of their last 5 road games while the Canes are 7-1 to the Under in their last 8 against the Metro and are 21-43-4 in their last 68 meetings with the Flyers. This one has the makings of a boring defensive struggle as the Under is 7-3-1 in their last 11 in Carolina and neither team has been much to look at in the offensive zone.
