Saturday NHL action features the Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been looking good of late with wins in four of five after squeezing by visiting Minnesota 2-1 on Thursday. The Wild opened the scoring with a first period tally from Jordan Greenway while Devan Dubnyk took the loss with a 35 save performance.

Bryan Rust netted the equalizer in the first for the Penguins and then scored the winner in the third. Casey DeSmith picked up the win for Pittsburgh with a monster 40 save effort that upped his record to 11-6-4.

The Carolina Hurricanes need a change in momentum after a 4-1 defeat to visiting Detroit on Thursday saddled the team with losses in four of five. The Hurricanes lone goal came off the stick of Andrei Svechnikov in the second while Petr Mrazek absorbed the loss with three goals allowed on 23 shots.

The Red Wings received scoring from Niklas Kronwall, Frans Nielsen, Jonathan Ericsson and Dylan Larkin. Jonathan Bernier picked up the win for Detroit with 38 stops as eight players posted points.

Penguins are 0-5 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and under is 6-1-2 in Penguins last 9 vs. Metropolitan and Penguins are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan. Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and Hurricanes are 0-5 in their last 5 Saturday games and under is 8-1 in Hurricanes last 9 vs. a team with a losing record. Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and Penguins are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and Penguins are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Carolina.

This seems like a game the Penguins lose but I’ll take a small chance on them anyway…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
