PNC Arena and the Carolina Hurricanes host the Pittsburgh Penguins in Friday NHL action.
The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to rack up the wins and have their sights set on overtaking Washington for the Metropolitan lead. Pittsburgh has won five in a row after upending Columbus 5-2 on the road with Artemi Panarin and Alexander Wennberg scored for the Blue Jackets.
Riley Sheahan topped the penguins attack with a pair of first period tallies with Brian Dumoulin, Zach Aston-Reese and Jake Guentzel also lighting the lamp. Jamie Oleksiak and Jake Guentzel added two assists each and Tristan Jarry got the win for Pittsburgh with 35 saves while Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 18 shots.
The Carolina Hurricanes have been a team that needs to fight and scrape to contend for a playoff spot and this year is no different. Carolina is fighting to right the ship after a 3-2, overtime loss to New Jersey has the team staring at a three game skid where Teuvo Teravainen and Jeff Skinner provided the scoring.
The Devils received a first period power play goal from Nico Hischier with Pavel Zacha scoring in the second before Taylor Hall lit the lamp in the extra session. Sami Vatanen added a pair of helpers for New Jersey and Keith Kinkaid made 40 stops to get the win while Cam Ward allowed three goals on 13 shots for Carolina.
Over is 4-0 in Penguins last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and Penguins are 5-0 in their last 5 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and Penguins are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Under is 9-0 in Hurricanes last 9 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and Hurricanes are 0-6 in their last 6 vs. Metropolitan and Hurricanes are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference. Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings and Penguins are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings and under is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings in Carolina.
The Hurricanes are a pesky team fighting for their playoff lives but I’m going with the surging Penguins…
