The Hurricanes return home looking to make amends for a 4-2 loss in Ottawa last night as they welcome a Sharks side coming off a shootout win over the Panthers last night.
The San Jose Sharks head into Raleigh on Friday night looking for their second win in as many nights and climb up the Pacific division standings in the process as they take on a Hurricanes side that has been playing well of late but coming off a loss last night. San Jose is one of those tricky teams as they seem to go in spurts and grab wins in bunches and you never really know where they are in the standings but at this point in time they are very much in the race for the Pacific division crown as they are three points back of the Kings with a game in hand. San Jose can take advantage of that extra game in this spot as they continue their road trip against a short handed Hurricanes group who is also battling for a playoff spot and will not let this one come easy.
The Hurricanes were expected to be a league doormat this season and while they still may fall short of the postseason it is clear they have silenced their critics and have pieced together a respectable season with the tools they have. Carolina is likely to move some pieces at the deadline as captain Eric Staal is the most likely candidate and with his underwhelming production being a cause for concern I don’t think the Hurricanes will be overly upset to see him walk. This should be an exciting game between two good teams but the Sharks are the favourite for a reason and I think they continue to win big games.
