|Date & Time||Saturday April 8, 2017, 7:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Carolina Hurricanes +110 / St. Louis Blues -130 --- Over/Under: 5
The St. Louis Blues travel to PNC Arena for a Saturday night NHL hockey match up with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The St. Louis Blues have been tearing it up for awhile as they try to stay ahead of the Nashville Predators for third in the Central Division. The Blues did just that with a 6-3 victory at the Florida Panthers on Thursday to pick up win number 13 in 17 contests. The balanced St. Louis off Trense featured goals from David Perron, Jaden Schwartz, Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan Reaves and Alex Pietrangelo. Schwartz also logged a pair of helpers and Jake Allen stopped 29 shots to keep the Blues ahead of the Predators. The Panthers have been eliminated from postseason contention saw Michael Matheson, Vincent Trocek and Denis Malgin light the lamp while James Reimer absorbed the loss despite 32 saves as Florida fell for the 6th straight time.
Sometimes all it takes for a team to rise to the occasion is a glimmer of hope and for the New York Islanders their ‘glimmer of hope’ is staying alive for the postseason. Unfortunately for the Carolina Hurricanes a strong run ended over a week ago and their playoff drive that had gone from zero to 60 came back to zero. The Hurricanes limited New York on shots but were not able to generate anything offensively which had goalie Eddie Lack to fend for himself and his 20 saves was not enough as the Canes losing streak reached four games. The Islands offense saw goals off the sticks of Brock Nelson, Andrew Ladd and Scott Mayfield which was overkill with Jaromir Halak standing tall between the pipes with a 29 save performance to record his second shutout of the season to lift the Islanders to win number four straight.
The under is 3-0-1 in Blues last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and the Blues are 1-6 in their last 7 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game while the Blues are 5-1 in their last 6 road games. The under is 3-0-1 in Hurricanes last 4 home games and the over is 4-0-1 in Hurricanes last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game while the Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last 4 overall. The over is 3-0-2 in the last 5 meetings and the road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings while the under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings in Carolina.
The trends send some mixed signals but if the Islanders are still alive for the postseason I’ll back them…
