The Washington Capitals look to stay hot as they continue their road trip into Raleigh on Saturday to face off with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Capitals made a statement with an overtime victory against the Chicago Blackhawks last night and will look to generate some more momentum on Saturday as they head into Raleigh to face off with the Carolina Hurricanes. Washington came into the season as one of the favourites to win the Stanley Cup and rightfully so as they have an exceptional roster that is as deep as they come and have so much fire power in the offensive zone that very few can rival. Washington will lean on the offense led by Alex Ovechkin in this spot against a Canes side that can be sneaky good but on the whole isn’t in the same level as the Caps.
The Hurricanes have been woeful to start the season and are 1-5 in their last six home games and things don’t get any easier here as they are hosting the Caps who have Cup aspirations and are looking like a legitimate contender once again. Carolina is expected to send Cam Ward to the crease as he will face off against Philipp Grubauer who is 2-0 with a 1.00 GAA in his first two starts of the season. Carolina is in tough this season and while they do have some talented pieces they are far away from being an Eastern Conference contender and they will be exposed a bit in this one against a very good Washington side.
The Caps are 4-1 in their last five home games and 5-1 in their last six overall while the Canes are 1-5 in their last six home games and 1-5 in their last six against the Metro. This is a nightmare spot for the Canes who should fall victim to yet another loss on home ice.
