The Washington Capitals are on the road to oppose the Carolina Hurricanes in Friday night NHL action.
The Washington Capitals remained hot with a 6-2 win against visiting Detroit extending their wining streak to three on Monday. Dylan Larkin and Gustav Nyquist scored third period goals for the Red Wings and Jonathan Bernier gave up five goals on 15 shots before Jimmy Howard stopped 9-10 in relief.
Alex Ovechkin topped the surging Capitals with a hat trick while Brett Connolly, Travis Boyd and TJ Oshie reached the scoring column. John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov posted two helpers each and Nicklas Backstrom assisted four times for Washington to make the 35 saves of Braden Holtby a winner.
The Carolina Hurricanes have been in a bit of a funk with losses in five of six following a 6-4 defeat to visiting Montreal on Thursday. Andrei Svechnikov scored twice for Carolina with Sebastian Aho and Jacob Slavin also supplying markers. Brett Pesce logged a pair of helpers for the Hurricanes who saw Petr Mrazek allow five goals on 39 shots.
Jeff Petry paced the Canadiens offensive explosion with a pair of goals with Matthew Peca, Brandon Gallagher, Artturi Lehkonen and Andrew Shaw also finding the scoring column. Phillip Danault and Kenny Agostino gave the Habs two assists each with Carey Price giving up four goals on 31 shots to get the win.
