The Jets look to build on their win against the Oilers as they head into Raleigh to take on the upstart Carolina Hurricanes.
The Jets came away with a big 2-1 win in Edmonton in their last outing but continue to scrounge in the Central division as they sit in dead last and are unlikely to land a playoff spot despite having more than 25 games remaining. Winnipeg is likely to become a seller at the trade deadline with Andrew Ladd being the most coveted piece and while this Jets side is worthy of a playoff berth they just haven’t been able to play consistently this season. They did welcome Ondrej Pavelec back as he returns as the number one goaltender and while he was brilliant against the Oilers it’ll be interesting to see whether he can sustain that success now that he has a game under his belt.
The Canes meanwhile have been a big surprise this season and have really come on of late and have gone from a team likely to send some big pieces away at the trade deadline to possibly acquiring a couple to make a run. The Canes sit in sixth in the Metro but are just six points back of the Islanders for the third seed and have played some of their best hockey over the last couple of weeks. Carolina is 13-9-6 at home this season and welcome a Winnipeg side that is 12-14-2 on the road and with all things considered it should be a pretty close and even match up. In the end, I think the way the Canes have been playing of late is enough to back them especially considering they aren’t the ones with anything to lose and that is a scary thing.
