The Line: Chicago Blackhawks -170 / Anaheim Ducks +150 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The United Center and the Chicago Blackhawks welcome the Anaheim Ducks to town for a Monday NHL matchup.
The Anaheim Ducks appeared to be on their way to righting the ship with three straight wins but have followed with a three game slide following a 2-1, shootout loss at the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night as the lineup is still missing some key contributors with injuries. The Ducks opened the scoring with Nick Ritchie lighting the lamp midway through the first period on assists from Corey Perry and Cam Fowler.
Los Angeles evened the game 1-1 with 1:32 remaining in regulation on a goal off the stick of Dustin Brown off of assists from Trevor Lewis and Drew Doughty. Perry scored for Anaheim in the SO before Anze Kopitar and Lewis scored for the Kings to secure the two points. Jonathan Quick stopped 25 shots for the LAK to up his record to 10-8-1 while Ryan Miller gave up a goal of 34 shots for the Ducks.
The Chicago Blackhawks have still not found the groove offensively so it’s been up to their defense and goaltending to win games and pick up points. The Blackhawks have had success lately with the defensive handling business with wins in three of four following a 4-1 victory at the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Jared McCann was the lone bright spot for the Panthers with his second period goal. Roberto Luongo absorbed the loss for the Panthers with four goals allowed n 39 shots.
The Blackhawks scored two times in the first and twice in the second with the defense making the lead hold up. The balanced Chicago offense received goals off the sticks of Jonathan Toews, Brandon Saad, John Hayden and Patrick Kane. Toews gave the Blackhawks a pair of helpers and Corey Crawford stood tall in the nets with 37 saves.
Under is 3-0-1 in Ducks last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and Ducks are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. Central and under is 4-0-1 in Ducks last 5 overall. Over is 2-0-2 in Blackhawks last 4 Monday games and Blackhawks are 0-8 in their last 8 Monday games and under is 4-0 in Blackhawks last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. Under is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings in Chicago and road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and under is 18-7-5 in the last 30 meetings.
Neither team has found their offense yet so I’m inclined to take a shot with the under for now…
