The Ducks and Blackhawks meet up at the United Center for a show down of Western Conference powers.
The Anaheim Ducks have turned their season around in a big way as they have done from a league doormat to a Cup contender over night and while they aren’t on the same level as some of the other top threats including the Blackhawks they are trending in that direction at the moment. Anaheim was a preseason favourite to win the Cup this season but a very slow start and an anemic offense had them on the ropes but thanks to some strong team defense and some on ice adjustments they are back in the playoff picture and could catch everyone off guard once they get there. The Ducks are 7-2-1 in their last 10 contests but are coming off a shootout loss against the Blue Jackets and will need to be refocused here against the defending champions.
The Blackhawks meanwhile have dropped back to back games including a decisive loss at home against the Dallas Stars in what could looks to be a preview of the Central division finals later this year. Chicago still holds a one point lead on the Stars atop the Western Conference standings but after dropping two in a row the pressure is on as the Hawks have played three more games than most teams in the West and their quest to finish with the top seed is in jeopardy. Chicago is a very good at and even more so at home and while Anaheim has really come on lately I just think the Hawks will be too much in a game where they will look to fine tune their effort after two straight losses.
