The Colorado Avalanche look for another big road win on Thursday night as they head into the United Center to take on the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Avalanche look to move a game above the .500 mark with a road win in Chicago on Thursday night but they will have their work cut out for them against a very good Blackhawks side that is playing well right now and have a 6-3-1 record. Colorado is one of the more underrated teams in the Western Conference as they have the roster to be a playoff team this season but until they sharpen up a bit more in the defensive zone they are going to face an uphill battle as their offense can only do so much. Colorado is expected to start Semyon Varlamov in this one who is 2-4 with a 3.18 GAA and he is slated to face off against Corey Crawford who is 4-3-1 with a 2.26 GAA and one shutout.
The Blackhawks are starting to hit their stride and are looking like a Cup contender once again this season as they have the personnel in place to go on a run and are led by Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews who make up one of the best duos in the league. Chicago is also excited to have Crawford back who is coming off an excellent season in the crease last year and so far he is playing better than he did a year ago and should be in the running for the Vezina again this season if he can maintain this early season form. Chicago is always a tough out at home and as such they find themselves as pretty heavy favourites here against an Avs side that will struggle with Chicago’s balance up front.
The Avs are 3-13 in their last 16 games against the Central and 4-10 in their last 14 overall while the Hawks are 4-1 in their last five and 6-15 in their last 21 against the Central. Colorado is a good team that will get some wins as a heavy dog at times this season but I don’t think this is one of them as Chicago should win easily.
