The Chicago Blackhawks look to stay red hot as they welcome the New York Rangers to the United Center on Thursday night.
The Rangers look to find their winning way on the road against the Hawks on Thursday but things won’t come easy as they have dropped 4 of their last 5 games against Chicago and haven’t looked great in the early going this season. New York is far removed from their days competing for the President’s Trophy and while they still have some pretty talented pieces they are considered an afterthought by most in the Metro division and will have to play some inspired hockey this season to unseat some of the league’s best teams. Henrik Lundqvist is expected to be back in the crease after a night off last time out as he will face off against Corey Crawford who will get the nod for the Blackhawks.
Chicago is off to a fast start this season but most of their damage has actually come on the road as they are .500 at home so far this season as the United Center hasn’t been kind to them lately. The Hawks are 3-8 in their last 11 home games and have been very inconsistent dating back to last season with a 5-17 record in their last 22 games following a win. Chicago has also struggled to earn points at home against the Rangers as the Blue Shirts are 4-1 in their last 5 trips to the Windy City in primarily low scoring games which will suit the Rangers just fine on Thursday night.
The Rangers are 3-13 in their last 16 against the Central and winless in their last 6 games following a win while the Hawks are 4-0 in their last 4 games on one day’s rest but are 7-19 in their last 26 Thursday games. Chicago to me is the better team and while they haven’t given the home fans much to cheer about lately they get the win in this one.
