The Penguins and Blackhawks complete their home and home set on Wednesday night after the Hawks took the first leg in Pittsburgh last night.
The Chicago Blackhawks can make a huge statement on Wednesday night and sweep the home and home set with the Penguins and while beating Pittsburgh hasn’t carried the same clout this season it is still an impressive feat if the defending champs can pull it off. The Hawks head into tonight’s game sitting in second place in the Central division and have won four games in a row and with the Stars suddenly hitting a bit of a speed bump they can look to the division lead in the distance and reset their goals. The Hawks are 15-5-1 at home this season which bodes well for them here against the Pens who will likely go with Jeff Zatkoff in this one.
The Penguins meanwhile continue their disappointing campaign and while they haven’t faded away completely and remain in the mix in the Metro they need to get going soon if they’re going to earn home ice advantage. Pittsburgh is still a good team with a ton of talent and with Sidney Crosby heating up it could be trouble for the rest of the division but this is just another tough match up as they face off against a spectacular Hawks side in Chicago. In a battle of the backups I have to lean to the Hawks who have the edge with Scott Darling going and while it is tough to beat the same team twice in as many nights I think they get it done.
