The Blackhawks and Lightning meet up in Chicago on Tuesday in what is the marquee game of a very busy night on the ice.
The Tampa Bay Lightning head into the United Center on Tuesday night in what is easily their biggest game of the season and one that could very well be a preview of the Stanley Cup finals as both of these teams are strong playoff contenders. The Lightning are off to a red hot start having won six games in a row and are 11-3-1 on the season sitting atop the Eastern Conference and tied with the Ducks for the best record in hockey. The Bolts draw a lot of headlines for their offense and rightfully so as Steven Stamkos headlines a jam packed unit up front but their defense and goaltending has been strong as well and if they can keep up their strong play over the course of the season there is no question they will be a playoff team and a very scary one at that. The Bolts surprised a lot of people in the playoffs last season and with their youngsters playing a huge role already this team should be good for a number of years to come.
The Blackhawks meanwhile got off to a strong start but have gone just 4-6 in their last 10 contests and have slipped into the middle of the pack in a very competitive Central division but they can get back in the win column by making a statement against a very good Tampa Bay team. The Hawks were a bounce away from making the Cup finals a season ago and certainly have the horses to get back there this season but with the Western Conference being as strong as it is they will have to upend some very good team along the way. The Hawks are almost a shoe in on home ice which is why they are pretty heavy favourites here but I am not quite buying it as I think the Lightning have a ton of talent as well and they have the better goalie in Ben Bishop and I think he makes the difference here in what should be a great game to watch.
