The Winnipeg Jets visit the Windy City to take the ice with the Chicago Blackhawks in Friday NHL action.
The Winnipeg Jets are still sitting atop the Central standings and don’t look like they are going to fall from their perch with wins in six of seven. Winnipeg has been solid at both ends of the ice but leaned on their scoring last time out in a 7-4 win at the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres received two goals fpm Jack Eichel with Ryan O’Reilly and Jason Pominville also scoring.
The explosive Jets attack saw Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers score twice with Patrik Laine, Dustin Byfuglien and Joel Armia joining the scoring spree. Jacob Trouba, Mathieu Perrault and Blake Wheeler each logged two assists to lift Steve Mason and his 30 stops to the win. Chad Johnson recorded 16 saves to absorb the loss for Buffalo.
The Chicago Blackhawks have not found a consistent pattern of winning which is a bit puzzling with a team that is loaded with talent. Chicago saw an opportunity at a three game winning streak go by the wayside in a 2-1 loss to the visiting Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night. The Blackhawks lone goal came in the first off the stick of Brent Seabrook.
Minnesota evened the score on a Jona Brodin tally near the midway point of the second period. Ryan Sute supplied the winner for the Wild at the 3:03 mark of the third period and the respective defenses took over from there. Devan Dubnyk picked up the win for the Wild with 34 stops while Anton Forsberg was charged with the loss with a 25 stop effort.
Over is 5-0 in Jets last 5 vs. a team with a losing record and Jets are 0-4 in their last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and Jets are 4-0 in their last 4 Friday games. Blackhawks are 0-6 in their last 6 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation and Blackhawks are 0-4 in their last 4 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation and under is 4-0-1 in Blackhawks last 5 vs. Central. Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Chicago and Jets are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Chicago and road team is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings.
Going against the Blackhawks is always a questionable practice because the team is a win waiting to happen but I’m doing that by backing the hot hand…
