NHL action comes to the Pepsi Center where the Colorado Avalanche welcome the Arizona Coyotes to town.
The Arizona Coyotes have been out of the postseason conversation since before the All Star break but to their credit the team has not given up. Arizona has won three of four where both ends of the ice have contributed to the success. The Coyotes are coming in off of a 2-1 win at Vancouver on Wednesday.
The Coyotes drew first blood on a Clayton Keller power play tally with 1:40 remaining in the first. The Canucks saw Jussi Jokinen even the score with only 16 seconds left in the opening period before Derek Stepan won it with his goal with 58 seconds left in regulation. Derek Stepan added two assists and Darcy Kuemper stopped 16 shots for Arizona while Jacob Markstrom stopped 32 shots.
The Colorado Avalanche have their sights on the postseason but the team has followed a three game winning streak with a three game slide following a 5-4 OT loss at Columbus. Carl Soderberg led the Avalanche with two goals with Tyson Barrie and Gabriel Landeskog lighting the lamp while Semyon Varlamov absorbed the loss with five goals allowed on 44 shots.
Thomas Vanek topped the Blue Jackets offense with a pair of goals with Boone Jenner and Zach Werenski also scoring in regulation. Seth Jones secured the two points for Columbus with his tally just 59 seconds in to overtime while Jones and Pierre-Luc Dubois posted two assists each to lift Joonas Korpisalo and his 23 stops to the win.
Over is 4-0 in Coyotes last 4 vs. Central and over is 4-1 in Coyotes last 5 vs. a team with a winning record and Coyotes are 23-70 in their last 93 vs. Central. Under is 3-0-2 in Avalanche last 5 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and under is 4-0-1 in Avalanche last 5 Saturday games and Avalanche are 14-3 in their last 17 home games. Road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and under is 11-4 in the last 15 meetings in Colorado and under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
I don’t know if I’m betting this but if I were I might do something small on the Coyotes…
