Colorado Avalanche -159 / Arizona Coyotes +135
The Arizona Coyotes and the Colorado Avalanche meet in NHL action from the Pepsi Center on Friday night.
The Arizona Coyotes will look to build some steam after picking up a 1-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks at home in their last outing. The game was scoreless through the 1st and 2nd intermission before Nick Cousins finally broke the deadlock, giving the Coyotes a crucial 1-0 lead that the ‘Yotes would ride to the finish line for the victory, despite being outshot 31-29 in the winning effort. Darcy Kuemper got the win between the pipes, improving his record to 25-19-7 after stopping all 31 shots faced in the winning effort, picking up his 4th shutout of the season in the process.
The Colorado Avalanche will look to keep their ball rolling after emerging victorious with a 4-3 win over Vegas in their last outing. Matt Calvert and Nathan MacKinnon gave Colorado an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 2:58 apart before Tyson Barrie pushed the lead to 3-0 early in the 2nd. Vegas pulled a pair of goals back to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Gabriel Bourque would restore the two-goal cushion by the end of the 2nd. Vegas brought it back to a one goal game late in the 3rd, but that’s as close as Vegas would get as Colorado slammed the door shut to hold on for a key two points in the playoff race. Philipp Grubauer got the win to improve to 16-9-4 after stopping 34 of 37 shots faced in the winning effort.
Arizona is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 45-94 in their last 139 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the Central division. Colorado is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the Western Conference. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
This should be one heck of a game with a playoff spot basically hanging in the balance as the Avs are currently holding onto the second wild card spot, and the Coyotes are two points behind Colorado right now. However, these two sides are heading in different directions down the stretch, as Arizona is fading, losing 5 of 6 while Colorado has won 5 of 6 to push ahead in the playoff race. The Avs have been a lot easier to trust on home ice as well while Arizona has been a profitable fade play more often than not, so I’ll lay the juice with Colorado in this pivotal game.
