The Avs return home after a win in Vancouver and get the luxury of taking on the Sabres who have been circled on the calendar by everyone this season.
The Sabres lost the McDavid Bowl on home ice the other night dropping a 4-3 decision to the Arizona Coyotes and now things are looking more and more likely that they will select with the top overall selection in July's draft barring bad luck in the lottery. Buffalo has played like the league's worst team since the puck dropped in October and while they have had some impressive wins this season it has come to be an expectation that they are going to lose on a nightly basis and the odds reflect as such. The Sabres have been +300 favourites a number of times this season and tonight is another case as they head into Denver to take on an Avs side desperately clinging on to playoff hope.
The Avalanche had an opportunity to jump back into the playoff mix but a regulation loss to the Edmonton Oilers basically polished off their playoff chances and while they rebounded nicely with a win over the Canucks the following night they are 10 points back with 8 games remaining. Colorado is a team that should jump right back into the mix next season as they have a great team but a few pieces especially on the back end could go a long way in getting them back into contention and there will certainly be some pursuits by Patrick Roy and the gang in the off season. As for tonight I think the Avs give their fans something to look forward to and they shouldn’t have any troubles.
