Things haven't been quite as rosy for the Calgary Flames after a great start to the season. They had a big overtime win the other day over the Chicago Blackhawks but aside from that it has been some very disappointing efforts from this club. We knew this was going to be a long season for the Flames and with all the stiff competition in the Western Conference this year there's nothing that we've seen that would make us think that won't continue to be the case. Thursday night they traveled to St. Louis to take on a tough Blues squad and despite finding a way to get a couple of goals past Brian Elliot despite limited chances they couldn't find a way to get a victory. Tim Jackman and Michael Cammalleri scored third period goals for the Flames after they trailed by three goals and generated just 12 shots over the first 20 minutes. Now they'll travel to Colorado to take on one of the biggest surprises of the early season. The Avalanche are 12-2-0 on the season but they're coming off a poor showing on Wednesday night, a 6-4 defeat to the Nashville Predators. Matt Duchene scored his 10th goal of the season to tie the game at 4-4 in the third period but the Avalanche couldn't find the go ahead goal. P.A. Parenteau, Ryan O'Reilly, and Paul Stastny also scored in the loss. This should be a good chance for the Avalanche to take advantage of a team they're better than that just played the previous night.
