The Carolina Hurricanes look to snap out of their ugly losing skid in Colorado as they face off against the Avalanche on Monday night.

The Hurricanes head into Colorado in the midst of a terrible 1-11 stretch in their last 12 contests in the Mile High City but this has been a season of change for the Canes who have been excellent all year long and look like a sure thing to qualify for the playoffs. Carolina is 7-1 in their last 8 games against the Central division and are 5-1 in their last 6 road games which puts them in a nice spot here against the Avalanche who have been great at home of late and will be battling for playoff positioning as well. Carolina is expected to send Curtis McIlhinney to the crease here as he will face off against Semyon Varlamov who will look to continue Colorado’s impressive home ice streak against Carolina.

The Avalanche have been up and down this season but are right in the mix for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference as they are currently just two points behind the Wild for the second wild card berth. Colorado is going to be without their captain and key offensive contributor for the foreseeable future though as Gabriel Landeskog is sidelined with an injury and his chances of coming back before the end of the regular season looks bleak. Landeskog is a huge part of Colorado’s success and the leader on and off the ice and in a time of need with his team competing for a playoff spot it will be tough not having him in the lineup/

The Canes are 12-4 in their last 16 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 as an underdog while the Avs are a woeful 11-23 in their last 34 and are 5-2 in their last 7 games as a favorite. The Canes are better on the road than the Avs are at home and at a very affordable price they are the play here.

Pick:
Carolina Hurricanes -105
