Colorado Avalanche -121 / Columbus Blue Jackets +100 -- Over/Under: 6
The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Colorado Avalanche meet in NHL action from the Pepsi Center on Tuesday night.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are in dire need of a win to snap a 5-game losing skid following a 4-2 loss to St. Louis in their last outing. St. Louis jumped out to a 2-0 lead and the game stayed that way through the 2nd period before Oliver Bjorkstrand cut the deficit in half. The Blues responded just :34 later before Pierre-Luc Dubois cut the deficit back to 3-2 but that was as close as Columbus would get as the Blues iced the game with an empty-netter late in the 3rd. Joonas Korpisalo took the loss, falling to 9-4-2 this season after allowing 3 goals on 32 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Colorado Avalanche will be out to snap a 3-game losing streak following a 5-1 loss to Vancouver in their last outing. Vancouver staked themselves a 2-0 lead within the opening 6:04 and carried the lead into the 2nd where the Canucks made it 3-0 before Matt Calvert got the Avs on the board with their lone goal of the game. Vancouver responded to make it 4-1 and added a 5th goal late to send the Avs’ fans home unhappy with nothing to show for the team’s hard work. Semyon Varlamov took the loss, falling to 13-13-5 after giving up all 5 goals on 26 shots faced in the losing effort.
Columbus is 9-4 in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record and 0-5 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 10-3-2 in their last 15 games against the Western Conference. Colorado is 7-19 in their last 26 games overall and 2-7 in their last 9 home games while the over is 21-8 in their last 29 home games against a team with a winning road record. Columbus is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams but just 9-20 in the last 29 meetings between these two teams in Colorado.
Neither of these teams have been anything to write home about lately, and neither one is worth staking any of my hard-earned money on as of late. However, the Avalanche have been a lost cause for a much longer time than this recent losing streak, while the Blue Jackets have been up and down themselves, but at least Columbus has done a good job recently beating the teams that they’re supposed to beat. I wouldn’t touch this game, but if forced to pick, I’d take a shot with Columbus here.
