The Avs look to shake off a tough loss against the Blackhawks in their last outing as they welcome the Stars to town on Thursday.
The Dallas Stars head into Denver on Thursday night looking close the gap on the Blackhawks in the Central division and distance themselves from the Blues in the race for home ice in what should be a very exciting contest. The Stars are coming off a big win on the road against the Winnipeg Jets and continue their road trip here against an Avalanche side that has been plying much better of late and has a very good chance at getting in the Western Conference playoffs. The Stars have been going with Antii Niemi of late and could very well look his way against tonight as the Avs will counter with Calvin Pickard who has been manning the starting job.
Colorado heads into action playing some of their best hockey of the season and thanks to some of their divisional foes starting to slide they have jumped into the playoff picture ahead of Nashville and Minnesota. The Avs sit in fourth in the Central but are in a wild card spot at the moment and with the Pacific division being very underwhelming this season they should be in a good position to earn a berth if they can stay ahead of the also rans. Colorado is a better team to me than their record indicates and if they can bring in a piece or two at the trade deadline they should be considered a dark horse to do some damage. The Avs match up well here but with Pickard getting the nod I am not entirely sold he will have enough in the tank to stop what the Stars can bring to the table.
