The Minnesota Wild take the ice with the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center in a Thursday NHL tilt.

The Minnesota Wild are eyeing a return trip to the postseason and hope to stay longer after getting knocked out in the first round. Minnesota was 45-26-11 in 2017-18 and were hurt by various injuries. The Wild were solid at both ends of the ice with the 11th ranked offense that scored three goals per night while the opposition managed 2.8 goals which was also 11th. Minnesota is hoping Eric Staal can duplicate his 42 goal performance despite turning 33 while Jason Zucker lit the lamp 33 times. The Wild need others to step up assuming this duo doesn’t score another 70+ goals between them. Devan Dubnyk posted a 2.52 GAA in 60 games a year ago which was in line with his career average.

The Colorado Avalanche enjoyed an unexpected rebound from one of the worst teams to a playoff team in 2017-18. Encore? Colorado finished 43-30-9 and were bounced from the playoffs n the first round but making the playoffs was a surprise.

The Avalanche averaged 3.1 goals to crack the top ten offensively and gave up 2.9 goals on 33.3 shots which was far too much rubber getting to the net. Nathan MacKinnon led the Avs with 39 goals while Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog tallied 29 and 25 goals respectively but there was a drop off after this trio and others need to step up. Semyon Varlamov is the top goal for now but the addition of Philipp Grubauer wasn’t for nothing.

Wild are 1-7 in their last 8 road games and Wild are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Central and under is 5-1 in Wild last 6 vs. Central. Avalanche are 0-4 in their last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and Avalanche are 0-6 in their last 6 games following a win and Avalanche are 1-6 in their last 7 Thursday games. Over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings and home team is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.

I like the young stars of the Avalanche to shine the brightest here but I am looking to see if Suter plays for Minnesota...

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
