The Avalanche look for their second win in as many nights as they return home to face off against the Minnesota Wild in a Central division battle in Denver.
The Wild continue to be one of the hottest teams in hockey through their 7-2-1 stretch over the last 10 games and the play of Devan Dubnyk continues to be a huge reason why they are back in the playoff fold and with a win tonight they can pull to within a single point of the Jets for fourth in the division. Minnesota has the make up of a playoff contender as they are solid across the board but their early season blunder could end up costing them a shot at the Stanley Cup as the Central is incredibly competitive and there are teams on either side of them in the standings just as worthy of making the postseason. Minny will do their best tonight sending Dubnyk up against Semyon Varlamov who can grab his second win of the weekend.
Colorado is another team that could be doomed from their slow start and they too have turned it up in the second half but a case of too little too late could send them to an early offseason. The Avs are coming off an impressive win in Dallas last night but they are still six points back of the Wild for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference and with the season drawing near a close and the trade deadline around the corner it'll be interesting to see whether Joe Sakic goes all in for a push or retreats and gets some prospects back. Either way this should be a great game but im giving the edge to the well rested side and to me the better side which happens to be the visitors.
