The Nashville Predators look to end Colorado’s six game winning streak when the teams meets up in Denver on Wednesday night.
The Predators will look to ride their building momentum into Colorado and come away with their seventh win in their last ten games but it’ll be very tough to do so based on the way the Avalanche have played so far this season. Nashville was expected to take another step back this season but they have actually looked impressive through their first 13 outings and could very well send the Avs to their second regulation loss of the season if they can play at the top of their game. Nashville has ridden the play of Carter Hutton in the crease after Pekka Rinne went down with an injury and while he may not be able to put up the same numbers as Rinne, Hutton is certainly playing the part at the moment and gives the Preds a good chance here against Colorado.
The Avalanche have been the talk of the league so far as they have put up a 12-1 mark so far this season and sit atop the Central division standings as a result. Despite some off ice concerns involving tonight’s starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov the on ice product has suffered at all as Varly has been one of if not the best goaltender in the league so far and he will look to continue that success here tonight. The AVs have been explosive in every facet of the game and use their team speed to their advantage against almost anyone in the league but they’ll have their hands full against a very tough Nashville defensive unit. This game pits another grudge match between draft rivals Seth Jones and Nathan Mackinnon and while I’m not sure the Preds pull out the win you can bet they will show up here and try to limit the bleeding and as such I love this game to stay under the total.
