The Coyotes hope to improve their road woes as they head into Colorado on Tuesday night looking for a victory.
The Coyotes started the year off as one of the hottest teams as they raced up the points ladder in the Western Conference but a 3-4-3 mark in their last 10 contests has them in fifth place in the Pacific division behind the Ducks, Sharks, Kings, and Canucks. Phoenix is a team that has solid goaltending and defense but relies a lot on offensive depth instead of one or two go to options which can sometimes work against you as no one seems to step up some nights. The Coyotes will hope for a solid effort from Mike Smith as he matches up against Semyon Varlamov for the Avs who has had a spectacular bounce back season in the Colorado crease.
The Avalanche are another team that started off incredibly well but has since cooled down a little but remain very much in contention with an impressive 20-8 record on the year. Colorado is a team that should have done very well last season but they just couldn’t find their groove and as such found themselves in the NHL lottery where they struck gold and selected forward Nathan Mackinnon. Colorado will hope some home cooking will end their mediocrity of late as they are 4-4-2 in their last 10 contests but have played quite a bit away from home of late and have been matched up against some very strong competition. I am very weary of this spot for the Avs as they play a team who Is just as good as they are and are home faovurites in the first game trip after their Western Canada road swing. I am taking a shot here with the Coyotes as this just seems like a spot they will come away victorious.
