The Sharks look to keep rolling after a huge win in Anaheim on Sunday as they head into Colorado to take on the slumping Avalanche.
The Sharks got back in the win column after a mini slump dropped them to the middle of the league standings but after a pivotal win Anaheim on Sunday they can jump back towards the top of the Pacific with a victory. San Jose has always been criticized as being a streaky team and the beginning of this season was no different as they raced out of the gates quickly but fell back down to Earth just as fast and now they sit with a 5-4-1 mark through their first 10 contests. San Jose has actually been much better on the road than at home so far this season and take on a Colorado team that hasn't been able to find any success this season either at home or on the road as they have regressed a lot since last year's run to the third best record in hockey. San Jose is expected to go with Antii Niemi in goal as he will go up against Semyon Varlamov for the Avs.
Colorado was the talk of the league last season as they went from being the league's worst team to finishing with one of the game's best records and making the playoffs under the new direction of head coach Patrick Roy. However, the Avs haven't looked like the same team through their first nine contests and whether that has anything to do with the loss of Paul Stastny remains to be seen I think it could just be the law of averages coming back to bite Colorado after a crazy season last year where they couldn't lose if they gave the game away. While this game looks like a no brainer on paper as the Sharks are clearly the better team I am a little worried about the line here as I think the Sharks should be favoured by much more and they aren't leading me to believe there is something more to it. Colorado can't be this bad and I see them making a statement in a game that might be a little early to call a must win but it as close as it gets for this team's psyche.
