The San Jose Sharks look to push the Colorado Avalanche to the brink of elimination with a Game 4 victory at the Pepsi Center in Denver on Thursday night.
The Sharks pulled off a huge victory in Game 3 of their series with the Colorado Avalanche with Logan Couture netting his first career playoff hat trick in a statement that could resonate all the way into Game 4 on Thursday. San Jose outlasted the Knights in Round 1 in vey controversial fashion but they have ceased the opportunity to ride that momentum into this series with the Avalanche who upset the Flames in the opening round and a win in this one could very well spell the end of Colorado’s run. The Sharks are 5-1 in their last 6 games overall dating back to the first round and are 39-18 in their last 57 meetings against the Avalanche which bodes well for them here as a slight underdog, but this is also approaching must win territory for Colorado who can ill afford to go down 3-1 heading back to San Jose.
The Avalanche meanwhile look to answer the bell and even things up heading back to California as they are still on home ice and have played quite well in Denver this season with an 8-1 mark in their last 9 games. Colorado has ridden the superstar talent of Nathan Mackinnon so far these playoffs and they have received some stellar performances from some of their secondary offensive weapons but if they’re going to win this series they need to do more in the defensive end. The Over has been a popular trend between both of these teams as they have gone above the number in 19 of their last 27 meetings with a push occurring on 3 more of those which is a pretty convincing statistic.
The Sharks are just 2-5 in their last 7 road games and 10-3 in their last 13 against the Central while the Avs are 5-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite and 5-2 in their last 7 against the Pacific. Both of these teams can score in bunches and the Over seems like a gift here as neither goaltender has been especially consistent.
