St. Louis Blues (19-8-2) at Colorado Avalanche (10-13-6)
|Date & Time||Saturday December 13, 2014, 10:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: Colorado Avalanche +131 / St. Louis Blues -145 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Blues look to make it four in a row and reclaim the Central division lead with a win in Colorado on Saturday while the Avs look to to win their second straight and jump back into the fold.
The Blues have been among the league's best to start the season and it comes as no surprise as they are loaded with talent and have the Stanley Cup on their minds this season after being on the cusp in each of the last few seasons and falling short. St. Louis is deep all across the board and while some were apprehensive about moving forward with Jake Allen and Brian Elliott as their starting goalies they have done just fine and have the Blues in a position to sit atop the division. St. Louis is a point back of the Blackhawks at the moment but are 19-8-2 on the season and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 overall and tonight will mark the return of former Avs forward Paul Stastny to Mile High for what could be a very chilly reception. Allen is slated to start and he will go up against Calvin Pickard who continues to fill in as the team's starter.
The Avalanche have had a tough go so far this season as they have regressed more than most people thought they would but with that being said they're still a solid team that should be competing for a playoff spot. The series of injuries to Semyon Varlamov doesn't help but Pickard has filled in nicely and does give the team a chance to win which they will need in a big way here as the Blues are very dangerous and can beat you in many different approaches. Colorado hasn't been very good at home this season but if there is any knock on the Blues it is that they have six losses on the road and are clearly a different bunch when playing at home but still the Blues are pretty heavy road favourites. I don't like this game much as I think the Avs will continue to improve but the Blues are the better team but not at the price we are getting. I'd say go with the total and play the under as Pickard has been playing quite well and if Colorado has a shot they'll need to keep it close.
