The Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche meet Wednesday in NHL action at the Pepsi Center.
The Vegas Golden Knights look for another victory after winning 10 of their last 13 games. The Vegas Golden Knights are averaging 3.1 goals per game and are scoring on 17.4 percent of their power play opportunities. Jonathan Marchessault leads Vegas with 24 goals, Reilly Smith has 33 assists and Shea Theodore has 192 shots on goal. Defensively, the Vegas Golden Knights are allowing 2.7 goals per game and are killing 81.7 percent of their opponents power plays. Marc-Andre Fleury has given up 144 goals on 1,673 shots faced and Malcolm Subban has allowed 48 goals on 497 shots. The Vegas Golden Knights have allowed three or less goals in each of their last six games.
The Colorado Avalanche look for another victory after winning five of their last eight games. The Colorado Avalanche are averaging 3.2 goals per game and are scoring on 21.7 percent of their power play opportunities. Nathan MacKinnon leads Colorado with 37 goals, Mikko Rantanen has 56 assists and Gabriel Landeskog has 230 shots on goal. Defensively, the Colorado Avalanche are allowing three goals per game and are killing 77.8 percent of their opponents power plays. Semyon Varlamov has given up 130 goals on 1,438 shots faced and Philipp Grubauer has allowed 80 goals on 927 shots. The Colorado Avalanche have allowed two or less goals in each of their last five games.
The Golden Knights are 9-2 in their last 11 games as a road favorite, 35-17 in their last 52 games as a favorite and 10-3 in their last 13 overall. The Avalanche are 19-39 in their last 58 games as an underdog, 1-4 in their last 5 games playing on 2 days rest and 1-6 in their last 7 games as a home underdog. The favorite is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the home team is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings. The under is 6-2 in Golden Knights last 8 games as a favorite. The under is 5-0 in Avalanche last 5 overall.
The Vegas Golden Knights are looking more and more like the team from last season with the playoffs right around the corner, and they've been money pretty much all season long as a favorite. With that said, the Colorado Avalanche are playing well in their own right lately with a drastically improved defense, and they need to pile up as many points as possible to keep so many playoff hopefuls off their back. There are currently three teams that trail the Avalanche by five or less points for that last playoff spot, so this is a big game for the home team. I like the value of the plus money in this spot with the more desperate team.
