The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets +110 / Boston Bruins -121 --- Over/Under: 5
The Boston Bruins travel to Columbus in a Saturday afternoon affair between two of the best goaltenders in the NHL.
The Bruins head into Saturday’s matchup with the Blue Jackets coming off their first loss of the season at the hands of the surprising Colorado Avalanche and they’ll look to get back in the win column as they travel to Columbus. Tuukka Rask has been great to start the season as he sports a 1.00 goals against average and only allowed one goal in a losing effort to the Avs but his team couldn’t get him any goal support and as such cost the Finnish national his first loss of the year. However, the B’s are one of the best teams in the league and are very deep up front which should spell nightmares for the Jackets who despite having their own sensational goaltender could use some help on the blue line.
The Blue Jackets are a team that some have pegged as being a darkhorse in the East and while that may come to fruition they have a lot of stiff competition that they’ll be battling all season and part of that comes in the form of the Boston Bruins. Columbus added some pieces in the offseason and have the reigning Vezina Trophy winner in Sergei Bobrovsky but I think they’ll have to do a lot more than people think to get into the Eastern Conference playoffs, especially with 15 other teams in the hunt. Offensively, the Jackets have some firepower which the Bruins will have to key in on but the bottom line for me here is that the Bruins hold a slight advantage in goal in my opinion and have the deeper team overall. Getting a home dog early in the season is nice but I think the Bruins are the play in this spot.
