The Boston Bruins look to stay red hot as they head into Columbus to face off against a Blue Jackets side who has struggled since the trade deadline.
The Bruins head into Columbus looking to create separation in the Atlantic division and lock up a home playoff series but they will have their work cut out for them against a Jackets side who is fast approaching desperation mode. The Bruins are a staggering 15-3 in their last 18 contests and are looking like a Stanley Cup contender at the moment but they are going to have what looks to be a tough opening round series with the Toronto Maple Leafs before having to square off with the league leading Tampa Bay Lightning if all goes according to plan. Boston is 5-2 in their last 7 games as an underdog but have struggled to a 4-9 mark in their last 13 contests against Metro division rivals and as we get closer to puck drop we will likely see the line come out once goalies are confirmed.
The Blue Jackets meanwhile made a huge splash at the deadline by acquiring Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel from the Ottawa Senators but they have struggled with the new additions and are looking like they could very well fall out of the playoffs altogether with a ton of heat coming from the rest of the Eastern Conference. The Jackets are currently tied with the Montreal Canadiens with 79 points but they have the edge in terms of wins and hold the tie breaker for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference but the Habs, Philadelphia Flyers, and Florida Panthers are still very much in the mix and Columbus needs to get in the win column in a hurry. Sergei Bobrovsky is expected to get the nod here as he will face off against Tuukka Rask.
The Bruins are 7-2 in their last 9 against a team with a winning record and are 5-2 in their last 7 as a road underdog while the Jackets are 1-5 in their last 6 against the Atlantic and 3-7 in their last 10 as a home favorite. The B’s are the better team and while Columbus needs the win more it will be Boston who comes away with a pivotal victory on Tuesday night.
