The Boston Bruins and the Columbus Blue Jackets meet in NHL action from the Nationwide Arena on Tuesday night.
The Boston Bruins will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 6-3 loss to Detroit last time out. Detroit opened the scoring to make it 2-0 after the first period, including a goal in the very last second of the opening frame. Boston took the lead by the end of the 2nd with goals from Jake DeBrusk, Brad Marchand and David Backes. The Bruins couldn’t hold on though, as Detroit would score four in the 3rd period to steal the win and send Boston back empty-handed. Jaroslav Halak took the loss, falling to 21-11-4 after allowing 5 goals on 27 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to build on their current 5-game winning streak after a 4-0 shutout win over Buffalo. Pierre-Luc Dubois, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Nick Foligno staked the Jackets an early 3-0 lead before Josh Anderson pushed the lead to four by the end of the 2nd period. The Blue Jackets would hold on through the 3rd period and finish the job to pick up their 5th straight win and a key two points in the playoff race, moving into the 1st wild card spot. Sergei Bobrovsky got the win, improving to 36-23-1 after stopping all 38 shots faced for his 9th shutout of the season.
Boston is 20-8 in their last 28 games overall and 0-4 in their last 4 games as an underdog while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Columbus is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall and 5-0 in their last 5 home games while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games against the Eastern Conference. The home team is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
The plus money with Boston is tempting considering that Boston is capable of turning it on at any time, and could use a win with the playoffs right around the corner. However, Columbus is red hot right now and have Bobrovsky between the pipes who is stopping pucks left and right. I just think this is too good of a price right now considering that Boston is pretty much locked in while Columbus has everything to play for, so I’ll lay the juice with Columbus in this spot.
