Two of the league’s worst meet up in Columbus on Friday night as the Sabres look to rebound after a 2-1 shootout loss to the Sens in their last outing.
The Buffalo Sabres take to the road on Friday night looking to distance themselves from the Toronto Maple Leafs for the worst record in the Atlantic division as they face off against a Columbus side that has been among the league’s biggest disappointments this season. The Sabres have a ton to look forward to moving forward but for the time being they are likely to send some pieces moving at the trade deadline and will end up with a top end draft pick where they will land yet another piece to go alongside their already budding young core. Robin Lehner is expected to get the start as he looks to continue his success since returning from injury as he will square off against Joonas Korpisalo who continue to log starter’s minutes for the Jackets.
The Blue Jackets meanwhile sit in the basement of the Metro division and while they too have a bright future they certainly have fallen well short of expectations this season and will have an extended offseason. Columbus was expected to be a dark horse in the Eastern Conference this season but a slow start and a handful of injuries has them playing catch up and with less than 25 games remaining and the trade deadline around the corner it’ll be interesting to see what Blue Jackets team shows up the rest of the way. This is a good spot for the home side but to be honest I think the goaltending matchup goes the way of Buffalo and for a toss up game I am willing to lay my chips with Lehner.
