|Date & Time||Tuesday March 28, 2017, 7:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets -235 / Buffalo Sabres +210 --- Over/Under: 5.5
NHL hockey comes to Nationwide Arena when the Buffalo Sabres take the ice with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Buffalo Sabres might not be in the postseason picture but to their credit the team is still playing hard. For lack of a better word, the Sabres are in the role of spoilers and played the part to perfection Saturday with a 5-2 victory versus the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs o earn wins in three of four contests. The balanced Buffalo attack featured a pair of goals from Jack Eichel with Ryan O’Reilly, Evander Kane and Dmitry Kulikov also lighting the lamp to make a winner of Robin Lehner and his 32 saves. The loss was extra costly for the Maple Leafs who saw #1 goalie Frederik Andersen leave after the first with an ‘upper body’ injury. Connor Brown and Auston Matthews provided the scoring for Toronto with Andersen allowing two goals in the first before Curtis McElhinney came in and gave up three goals in the second.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are playoff bound but still have a shot at the best record in hockey. After defeating the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 on Saturday, the Blue Jackets and the Pittsburgh Penguins are battling for second in the Metropolitan Division behind the Capitals. The question surrounding the CBJ is whether the team rests some players for the postseason or do they try to make a run at the Capitals which might not be worth it with time running out on the regular season. Columbus knocked off Philadelphia on a goal from Alexander Wennberg and a strong effort between the pipes from former Flyer Sergei Bobrovsky who recorded a monster 36 stops to earn shutout number seven on the season. Philadelphia never got going offensively and Michal Neuvirth and his 20 stops turned out to be a loss.
The under is 3-0-1 in Sabres last 4 road games and the Sabres are 0-4 in their last 4 Tuesday games while the over is 5-1-2 in Sabres last 8 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. The Blue Jackets are 12-2 in their last 14 games playing on 2 days rest and the Blue Jackets are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a losing record while the Blue Jackets are 13-3 in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. The over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Columbus and the over is 10-3-1 in the last 14 meetings.
The numbers say plenty of goals have been scored in this match up so I’ll go with the over until goalies are confirmed…
