The Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets meet up in Ohio on Wednesday night in a show down of two teams off to a fast start to the season.
The Flames look to build on their win on Monday night against the Washington Capitals with a follow up against another Metro division opponent as they take on Sergei Bobrovsky and the Blue Jackets on Wednesday. Calgary is off to a fast start and are looking like a serious contender in the Pacific division as they are 12-8 in their first 20 games and are 6-3 on the road so far but they have some big time victories on their resume so far and are starting to play some of their best hockey and coming off a massive win against the Caps they are hoping to carry that over into another big effort against the Blue Jackets who are 6-4 through 10 games at home so far.
The Blue Jackets are hoping last season’s strong campaign will translate into another productive season this year and while they have battled inconsistency throughout the season they still have 13 wins and are hoping to maintain their dominance over the Pacific division of late. Columbus has one of the best goalies in the league in multi-time Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky and if they can get a fraction of the same productivity out of their offense and defense they should certainly be in the mix for a playoff spot and could very well be the favourite to win the Metro division.
The Flames are 5-0 in their last five against the Metro and 4-1 in their last five overall while the Jackets are 4-0 in their last four overall and 3-12 in their last 15 playing on one day’s rest. Calgary is a dark horse in the West this season and to me their win against the Caps was no fluke as they prove it here and get a big win against the Jackets in Columbus.
