The Columbus Blue Jackets welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to town for an NHL bout on Friday.
The Carolina Hurricanes play their third road game in four contests when the team takes the ice at the Columbus Blue Jackets. Carolina is gunning for back to back victories after downing the Florida Panthers 3-1 that put a four game slide on Tuesday.
The Hurricanes had some problems scoring but it wasn’t for a lack of trying with 45 shots. Brock McGinn scored in the second for a 1-0 lead before Vincent Trocheck evened the score with under six minutes left in the second period. Derek Ryan gave the Canes the lead in the third and Justin Williams secured the win with an empty net tally.
Roland McKeown logged a pair of helpers for Carolina who also received 30 stops from Scott Darling that lifted the team to 5-5-3. The Panthers received a season high 45 saves from Roberto Luongo in an outstanding, albeit losing effort.
The Columbus Blue Jackets look for a win on home ice against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. Columbus have hit a bit of a skid following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the visiting Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.
Following a scoreless first period the Predators saw Matt Irwin find the back of the net at 12:43 of the second for the lead heading to the third period. The Blue Jackets evened the score at 4:37 on a Pierre-Luc Dubois unassisted marker. Calle Jarnrok scored the game winner for the Preds at 12:43 with Viktor Arvidsson adding an empty netter with 16 seconds remaining.
Mikka Salomaki posted a pair of helpers for Nashville while Pekka Rinne recorded 35 stops to improve to 7-2-2. Joonas Kospisalo absorbed the loss for the Blue Jackets with 26 saves.
