The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets -160 / Chicago Blackhawks +144 --- Over/Under: 6
The Chicago Blackhawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets meet in NHL action from Nationwide Arena on Saturday night.
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to bounce back from their first regulation loss of the season, coming in the form of a 4-1 loss to Arizona in their last outing. Chicago fell behind 1-0 after 20 minutes and Erik Gustafsson would equalize but that was all the scoring the Hawks would do as the tie lasted just 2:03 before Arizona re-took the lead. The Coyotes would tack on a pair of insurance markers to send the Blackhawks home empty-handed. Corey Crawford took the loss in his return, allowing 3 goals on 30 shots to fall to 0-1 this season.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to keep their momentum going after a 6-3 triumph over Philadelphia in their last outing. Anthony Duclair would tie the game for the Jackets after falling behind early, but the tie would last just 1:17 as Philadelphia would carry a 2-1 lead into the 2nd. Cam Atkinson would strike twice in a span of 3:08 to give the Jackets a 3-2 lead and Nick Foligno added a 4th for a lead the Blue Jackets wouldn’t relinquish. Josh Anderson and Sonny Milano would add insurance markers late in the 3rd to secure the points for Columbus at the final horn. Sergei Bobrovsky picked up the win to even up his record at 2-2-0 this season.
Chicago is 12-26 in their last 38 games overall and 5-14 in their last 19 road games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 Saturday games. Columbus is 2-5 in their last 7 home games and 2-5 in their last 7 games following a win while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the Western Conference. Chicago is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams but 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Columbus.
The Blackhawks have a talented lineup from top-to-bottom with the likes of Kane and Toews, but I still need to see that Corey Crawford can get back to form before I install any faith in the Hawks. Chicago’s had a ton of success in this matchup but have struggled at Nationwide Arena, so I’ll take a shot with the Blue Jackets to come away with the win at home as the home team has won the last 6 meetings between the two sides.
