The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets -147 / Dallas Stars +134 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets will play back-to-back games when they meet up on Tuesday night. This will be the first of two scheduled meetings this season.
The Stars are coming off of a 3-2 home victory over the Buffalo Sabres, as coach Lindy Ruff earned his 600th career NHL win. The Stars have been known for average defense for much of the season, but goalie Kari Lehtonen has allowed two goals or fewer in five of his last six starts. They have now won eight of their last nine games when holding the position to two goals or less. Offensively, they’ve scored three or more goals only three times in their last eight games. Dallas is 13-12-3-1 this season on the road.
The Blue Jackets are coming off of a 2-1 road victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The win ended the Maple Leafs seven-game home winning streak. They’ve now won two in a row and five of their last eight games. They’ve really taken advantage of the power play during this stretch, scoring six power play goals in their last six games. Defensively, they’ve held teams to two or fewer goals in five of their last eight games. The Blue Jackets are 17-11-1-1 on their home ice this season.
With both teams traveling and playing a back-to-back, I really like the under in this spot. I expect both teams to come out a little sluggish and tired after such competitive wins from both teams on Monday.
But besides the obvious, the under has hit in seven of the last nine meetings between these teams that have been played in Columbus. The under is also 19-7-1 in the last 27 games played between these two teams.
With the way both teams have been protecting the net, I’m calling a low-scoring game once again.
