The Detroit Red Wings look for a road victory on Saturday night as they head into Columbus to battle the Blue Jackets who were shut out their last time out against the Canucks.
Detroit will look to improve on their woeful road stretch as they have lost six of their last seven away from the Joe as they take on one of the league’s best home teams on Saturday night as they head into Columbus to battle the Blue Jackets. The Red Wings have had a disappointing season and will likely fall short of extending their impressive playoff streak to 26 straight seasons as there are too many good teams in the Metro division that will bypass them for the two wild card berths while the Canadiens, Sens, Leafs, and Bruins are in better shape in the Atlantic. The Wings have dropped seven of their last eight against the Eastern Conference and will send Jared Coreau to the crease as he will face off against Sergei Bobrovsky who holds a huge edge between the pipes in this games and that is evident by the line here.
The Blue Jackets have cooled off since their remarkable first half as they have lost five of their last seven games but their impressive home ice record that stands at 18-6 in their last 24 has them in contention for top spot in the Conference as we approach the trade deadline. The Jackets have ripped off seven wins in their last nine tries against the Atlantic division and facing off with the Wings has them in a good position to extend that mark as Detroit is not having a good season and don’t have the offensive swagger to keep pace with a Columbus side that is getting career years from a handful of players.
The Red Wings are 1-4 in their last five against the Metro and 2-7 in their last nine overall while the Jackets are 8-2 in their last 10 against a team with a losing road record but 1-4 in their last five against a team with a losing record overall. The Red Wings are a mess and while I am not a huge fan of the Jackets I do think they get it done at home in this spot.
