Detroit Red Wings (34-25-11) at Columbus Blue Jackets (28-32-8)
|Date & Time||Thursday March 17, 2016, 7:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Columbus Blue Jackets +122 / Detroit Red Wings -135 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Red Wings look to play out of their tailspin as they head into Columbus to face off against the Blue Jackets.
The Detroit Red Wings have picked a very inopportune time to go on a drought as they have fallen out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture for the time being and are in desperate need a victory in this one. The Wings are 5-5 in their last 10 games and are coming off a pivotal loss to the Philadelphia Flyers who have now moved clear of the Wings after getting a win in Chicago last night and now it is Detroit who has to play catch up for the rest of the season. Philadelphia also has a game in hand on the Wings so Detroit knows that every game from here on out counts and in a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets who sit second to last in the Eastern Conference they absolutely must get a victory. However, they haven’t looked good at all lately and while Columbus has dropped two in a row they seem to be playing better since the all-star break.
The Blue Jackets have struggled this season but will try to relish in the spoiler role the rest of the way and that mission begins tonight against the Wings. Columbus is actually a decent team on home ice this season as they have 15 of their 28 wins at home and have earned points in another six and while that isn’t going to scare any playoff contenders it should give them the edge in this matchup against a Wings team that is in trouble right now. However, Detroit has made the playoffs in 24 straight seasons and I don’t think they are about to roll over and have that streak halted without a fight and in a must win type game I think they get it done.
