The Detroit Red Wings look to snap their four game road losing skid as they head into Columbus to face off with the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Friday.
The Red Wings look to shake off a tough 4-0 loss at home last night against the Vegas Golden Knights as they head right back to the road to face off with the Columbus Blue Jackets who are coming off a win at home against the Colorado Avalanche in overtime. The Wings have had a tough go this season and will likely fall well short of the playoffs as they have gone from being the model franchise in the NHL to a team that is set to miss out on the postseason for back to back seasons and have a ton of work to do if they’re going to jump back into championship discussion in the Eastern Conference. Detroit is expected to send Jimmy Howard to the crease here as he is tentatively expected to match up with Sergei Bobrovsky but we are still awaiting the goaltending matchup which could alter the line by puck drop.
The Blue Jackets meanwhile netted a huge home win last night against the Avalanche and are clawing towards the playoffs in the Eastern Conference and with a win heading into the weekend on Friday night they would put themselves in decent shape in the Metro division. Columbus has had an up and down season as they looked like one of the league’s best early on before a mid season swoon and now they look like they are peaking at the right time with the postseason just around the corner and if Bobrovsky can get back to his Vezina form they could very well go on a run in the East and send some teams packing in the process.
The Wings are winless in their last five and 2-5 in their seven in the back end of a double header while the Jackets are winless in their last six Friday games and 6-2 in their last eight meetings with the Red Wings. Detroit is in trouble and with the Jackets needing to maintain their winning ways I look for them to do it here.
